SCOTT CITY, Mo. — A Sikeston man was killed and a woman arrested after a two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by Cadarious Butler, 30, of Sikeston, was southbound on Interstate 55 at the 87.2 mile marker at 1:43 p.m. when his vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by Karmilia L. Smith, 20, of Sikeston.

Butler’s vehicle travelled off the right side of the roadway and overturned. He was pronounced dead by Scott County Coroner Scott Branam at 1:49 p.m. The death is the 20th in Troop E in 2021.

According to a Highway Patrol arrest report, Smith was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway (resulting in an accident), operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

Smith is being held without bond in the Scott County Jail until her court hearing, which is set for May 19.
