NEW MADRID, Mo. — Dwayne Lee Whitworth, 54, went home to be with the Lord on July 9, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Born Sept. 20, 1966, in St. Louis, Missouri, son of the late Donna and David Whitworth, Dwayne began his law enforcement career in 1996 working with Cape County and received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2013. He served as patrol officer for several years in Marston, Missouri, before deciding to serve the community of New Madrid. Dwayne worked for the New Madrid Children’s Division before taking the position as Chief of Police of Matthews, Missouri, until his retirement in 2020. He also served his country by serving a tour in the army and a tour in the Navy. He co-founded “Shop with a Cop” for the New Madrid Police Department and sat on the Board of Directors for N.M.H.A. and the FRC.

On Nov. 2, 2012, in Marston, he married Donna Sue Whitworth, who survives of the home in New Madrid.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: his children, Brittany (Ja-Keem) Forester of Park Hills, Missouri, Eric Seitz of South Carolina, Angel (John) Harless of Sikeston, Missouri, Savannah (Davis) Aters of East Prairie, Missouri, Donna Leanne Whitworth, Kandi Gamblin and Dennis Jonathan Gamblin, alll of Portageville, Leland Wayne Whitworth of New Madrid, Billie (Justin) Sindorf of Oran; siblings, David (April) Whitworth of Jackson, Missouri, Carl (Tina) Whitworth of Woodward, Oklahoma, Angie Ross of Sikeston, Sheila (Jerry) Miles of Fredericktown, Missouri, Sharon (Brad) Burns of Bonne Terre, Missouri; and nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Joey Ross.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 15 at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.

Pallbearers: Joey Higgerson, Brandon Hanner, B.J. Phillips, John Dubois, Curtis Arnold and Brandon Townley.
