Active COVID-19 cases, deaths increase in area as vaccinations lag

The number of active COVID-19 cases continues to climb in the area as do the number of deaths related to the virus.

On Friday, the Scott County Health Department reported the death of three residents related to complications from COVID-19. One person was in their 50s, another in their 60s and one in their 80s. The deaths make 92 in the county related to COVID-19.

During Friday afternoon’s report, the Scott County Health Department reported 214 new positive cases last week, with many of those testing positive being younger. The breakdown of positives were: 0-9: 26; 10-19: 27; 20-29: 52; 30-39: 32; 40-49: 21; 50-59: 22; 60-69: 19; 70-79: 13; 80+: 2.

There have been 47 new positive cases reported in the county since Friday, giving Scott County 342 active cases.

The Mississippi County Health Department reported 34 new positive cases in the county since Friday along with two additional deaths. There have now been 34 deaths related to COVID-19 in the county.

Currently there are 150 active cases in Mississippi County.

There are 159 active cases in New Madrid according to the New Madrid County Health Department. Last week there were 143 new cases and there have been 55 deaths since the pandemic began.

An additional death was reported in Stoddard County on Monday, giving the county 82 related to COVID-19. Currently in Stoddard County there are 201 active cases.

Vaccinations

In Missouri, 51.7% of the state has initiated vaccination and 45% has completed vaccination.

Locally, 40% of Scott County residents have initiated vaccination and 34.7% have completed vaccination. In Mississippi County, 38.8% of residents have initiated vaccination and 32.9% have completed vaccination while 30.1% of New Madrid County has initiated vaccination and 25% has completed vaccination.

In Stoddard County, 35.3% have initiated vaccination and 29.6% has completed vaccination.
