Oran resident Allen Seabaugh has announced he will run for Scott County Clerk in the Aug. 2 primary.
Democrat Rita Milam, who has worked at the clerk’s office for 38 years and served as the Scott County Clerk since January of 1995, recently announced she will retire Dec. 31.
Seabaugh has served as the supervisor of elections in Cape Girardeau County for the past seven years as well chief deputy county clerk for five of those years.
“I have found my service both challenging and rewarding as I serve to make our office and elections open, free, and fair,” Seabaugh said in a statement. “My goal is to bring my knowledge and experience to the residents of Scott County by serving as county clerk.”
Seabaugh, a married father of five, holds a masters degree in public administration and a bachelor of science degree in political science from Southeast Missouri State University.
“My education at Southeast Missouri State University has supplemented my experience,” Seabaugh said. “My studies and research emphasized local government administration including my 120-hour internship with the City of Jackson, Missouri.”
