Shelby Jean Hurley

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — Shelby Jean Hurley, age 84, longtime resident of Portageville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at the Lakes of Maumelle Nursing Home in Maumelle, Arkansas.

Shelby Jean Hurley was born Sept. 12, 1937, in Lilbourn, Missouri, to H.H. and Glenna Halbrook Guiling who both preceded her in death. She started her teaching career in a one-room school house in the Dogwood community of East Prairie, Missouri. She taught most of her career as an elementary teacher in Marston, Missouri. One of her fondest memories she talked about was bringing her pet raccoon to school for her children to see.

In 1961, she married Rondal Lee Hurley who preceded her in death in 2007.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Parrish Hurley of Maumelle and Perry Hurley of Greenwood, Missouri; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon until service time at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at Delisle Funeral Home in Portageville.

Interment will be in the Portageville Cemetery.
