CHARLESTON, Mo. — The Charleston Economic Development Group wants to improve the town, but it needs feedback from community members first.

Citizens can provide their opinions during the group’s town hall for public input on revitalization efforts , which is set for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Opportunity Family Outreach Center, 601 W. Marshall St., in Charleston. All are welcome, and it is free to attend.

The meeting will be facilitated by state leaders from Missouri Main Street Connection with a goal of making Charleston a better place to live, shop and visit.

“This town hall meeting will bring the community up to speed, let them know what Missouri Main Street Connection is about, and what they can do for the community and then get the community’s insight,” said Jayne Ellen Ray with the Charleston Economic Development Group.

The Economic Development Group has teamed up with Missouri Main Street Connection, an economic development program that has proven results in assisting Missouri cities to revitalize their towns. Charleston was awarded a two-year service grant with Missouri Main Street Connection.

During the two years, Missouri Main Street Connection will partner with Charleston to implement their four-point approach which has a proven record of success and has been used in 43 states and the District of Columbia, according to MMSC.

Before this can happen, they need to hear from the community, MMSC said. The community is encouraged to come to the town hall meeting and voice any concerns, opinions and thoughts.

“This is the first step in working with Missouri Main Street Connection. Come learn about MMSC, contribute your suggestions and ideas and find out how to get involved,” Ray said. “Together, we can make a difference.”
