Letter: Proposition Fire will be on April 5 ballot

Saturday, February 19, 2022

Greetings,

My name is Jeremy Perrien, the chief of Scott County Rural Fire Protection District. I am eager to begin conversations with the community to explain the factual impact of the proposed operating levy property tax increase, Proposition Fire, on the April 5 ballot to the fire district. The purpose of this $0.50 operating levy property tax increase is to improve the safety and security of our fire district and the people we serve.

Communication is key to this endeavor, and we want the community to understand the potential positive financial impact on the Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating from the proposed new firehouse and equipment. A new station on the south end of the Fire District can help reduce response times to the areas that experience a greater volume of calls for service. Reduced response times lower the ISO rating which may translate into reduced premiums on homeowner’s insurance. Additionally, we plan to use these funds to upgrade some of our current firehouses and equipment that are not up to safety standards. We will be holding informational sessions where community members are invited to learn about this proposal and provide feedback. My commitment is to let the citizens of the fire district know that their voice has been heard.

Session 1:

When: Monday, March 14

Where: Morley Fire House, 910 West Harding St., Morley, MO 63767

Time: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Session 2:

When: Friday, March 25

Where: Vanduser Fire House, 1000 Vanduser St., Vanduser, MO 63784

Time: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Session 3:

When: Wednesday, March 30

Where: Blodgett Fire House, 220 North Hawkins St., Blodgett, MO 63824

Time: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Our goal is simple, to be a model of excellence and maintain the safety and security of the citizens of Scott County Rural Fire Protection District. All feedback is welcome; the dialogue is healthy and needed to determine how best we can serve our community.
