SIKESTON — Glenn Mason Holmes, age 79, passed away peacefully on Feb. 15, 2022, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in the presence of his closest family.

He was born Dec. 30, 1942, in Sikeston, son of the late Willis and Marie Holmes. He was an honorable, Christian, husband, father and friend.

Glenn was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a devoted Sunday school teacher for 12 years. He resided in Acworth, Georgia, from 1970 to 1980 as an iron worker and was a journeyman mechanic for the Sikeston Power Plant for over 20 years.

His interests were reading the Bible, photography, guns, flipping houses, woodworking, home improvement, spending time with his family, helping others, browsing the aisles at Lowe's and watching television.

In 1966 in South Carolina, he was married to Carol Gilliland Holmes; they were married 53 years, and she survives him in their home in Sikeston.

He is also survived by three children, Christopher Scot and Dana Holmes of Oran, Missouri, Chad Michael and Starr Holmes of East Prairie, Missouri and Melissa “Pete” Holmes Smith and Jesse Smith of Valparaiso, Indiana; four siblings, Leroy and Nancy Holmes and Bill and Bonnie Holmes of Oran, Shirley and Kenny Anderson of Sikeston and Mary Ann Janner of McKenzie, Tennessee; and six grandchildren, Chad Spangler, Bethany Holmes, Tori Holmes, Dade Smith, Dahlia Smith, and Theodore Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, David Gilliland Jr.; best friends, Ronnie Hartline and Tony Janner (brother-in-law); and his cat companion, Odie.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 25, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, with full military honors.
