Board members recognized for school board week

SIKESTON — Sikeston R-6 Superintendent Dr. Tony Robinson acknowledgedR-6 Board of Education members in celebration of the School Board Recognition Week, which is March 6-12, during the regular board of education meeting Tuesday at the Central Office.

“We definitely want to thank our school board members for volunteering,” said Sikeston R-6 Superintendent Dr. Tony Robinson, who was also acknowledged Tuesday as the MASA Emerging Superintendent of the Year for the Southeast Region.

Sarah Thompson, R-6 communications director, said the district is celebrating its board of education members all week long with individual posts via the district’s official Facebook page.

“We are very grateful for your commitment and thank you for your tremendous leadership by helping us bring a better and brighter education to all Sikeston Public Schools,” Thompson said.

Current R-6 board members are President Aaron Boyce, Vice President Chad Bles, Ben Alcorn, Matt Drake, Renee Grimes, Rebecca Steward and Matt Tanner.

Also on Tuesday, retiring Sikeston Public Schools Foundation trustees, Chris Hodgkiss and Norma Miles, were acknowledged for their service and dedication. Hodgkiss has served on the Foundation since 2013, and Miles has served since 2015 and also as the Foundation secretary.

Sikeston High School wrestling state qualifiers were recognized Tuesday. These included Ellie Douglass, Kate Grubbs, Lila Eckert, Alayna Ray, Blayne McDermott, Trey Scott, Sam Lancaster, Dom Mullin and Mark Fisher along with head coach Blake Angle and assistant coaches Corey Adkisson, Jacob May, Charles Michael and Ben Rushin.

Standout Students for March were Lee Hunter Elementary students Hadley Kelley and Wyatt Hummel.

Also recognized were this month’s Leaders of the Pack, which includes the following R-6 employees: Sherri McCoy, Belinda Owens, Dawna Allen, Kenny Garrison, Dominic Ellis, Renee Henry, Larry Vega, Jason Standridge, Donnie Garner and Cynthia Henry.
