NEW MADRID, Mo. — Tommy Thompson, age 82, of New Madrid, died at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Friday, April 8, 2022.

Born on June 19, 1939, as Thomas James Thompson at home in New Madrid to J.R. and Lennie Fontaine Thompson, he was the fifth generation of his family to reside in New Madrid dating back to his great-great-grandparents, Thomas Littleton and Malinda Ann Watson Fontaine.

After graduating from New Madrid High School, he joined the United States Army Reserves and was stationed in Fort Sheridan, near Chicago, Illinois. He was a printer and worked 23 years for The Weekly Record in New Madrid, then worked for 23 years with Moll Printing in Sikeston until retiring in May 2011.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Beavers Thompson, who survives of the home.

Also surviving is their daughter, Michelle Thompson Brazel, and son-in-law, Randy Brazel of Charleston, Missouri; one granddaughter, Natalie Lenn, and her husband, Leighton “Trey” Harmon Kersey III, and one grandson, Thomas Rand Brazel all of Charleston.

Family and Friends will gather for Graveside Rites on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 1 p.m. in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.

McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston, Missouri, is in charge of arrangements.
