SIKESTON — Sikeston R-6 School District’s building projects are on schedule and budget for completion this summer.

Jere Sheehan with Navigate Building Solutions presented updates on the construction of the new Lee Hunter Elementary building and Bulldog Hall on the Sikeston High School campus during the April 12 regular monthly school board meeting.

For Lee Hunter, the duration of construction was contracted for 14 months with work beginning March 2021 and substantial completion is spring 2022. The contract is $11.8 million.

“We’re currently doing all the finishes and getting ready to do the flooring,” Sheehan said. “P painting is going on, and mechanical units are getting started up.”

From the owner standpoint, the next step is to coordinate floor waxing in preparation of the furniture installation which begins mid-June and installing IT solutions. A ribbon cutting is planned for August.

“We’re well on our way,” Sheehan said.

Bulldog Hall was contracted six weeks later than Lee Hunter with a construction duration of 14 months. Work began in May 2021 with a substantial completion for spring 2022.

The original contract is $5.6 million.

“We’re currently doing the above ceiling electrical and mechanical rough-ins in the classrooms and the media center.

The drywall finishes are going in the classrooms, and we’ll start the media center shortly,” Sheehan said.

Once again, from the owner standpoint, the next step is to coordinate floor waxing in preparation of the furniture installation which begins July and installing IT solutions. A ribbon cutting is planned for August.

Sheehan said the next update for Lee Hunter will be the startup equipment and floor and wall protection. With C building, the next update will be to complete the brick in the next week or two, complete the windows and the storefront and complete the drywall.

Sheehan also noted the electrical panel issues from last month were resolved.
