Congrats to local baseball teams

It’s good to see local baseball teams having success. Congratulations to Portageville, Oran and East Prairie. I remember when Sikeston used to have baseball programs we could be proud of. Don’t see those days returning for a while.

Not buying Trump attire

After observing the attire and merchandise being purchased and worn by the Trump supporters, it really makes me sick. Filthy names and hatred on political merchandise is sadly being sold to the weak and ignorant supporters who think they can get attention with lewd and hateful language and remarks. To me it is not showing support for a candidate but only displaying weakness in your candidate. A true leader would condemn this filthy merchandise. America, please grow up.

Cashing US savings bonds

I went to my local Sikeston bank with some 30 year old U.S. savings bonds to cash. This bank, yes an FDIC bank, said they no longer cash U.S. savings bonds. I found this very disturbing since I have CDs, saving accounts, and my checking account with this bank. I went to another local bank and they happily cashed the U.S. savings bonds for me. Since they cashed the bonds for me I opened an account with this new bank and deposited the proceeds of the bonds in this new bank. I am now going to liquidate all my funds with the bank I have used for over 25 years to the new bank who will cash my U.S. savings bonds. For those, particularly senior citizens, people who have bought U.S. savings bonds over many years, I caution you to find a bank that will serve you and cash bonds. Yes you can request very complicated forms to complete from the U.S. treasury and mail your bonds to be cashed, but good local banks can cash them for you in a few minutes.
