Call of stolen vehicle with child inside found to be hoax

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — A call of a possible stolen vehicle with a child inside turned out to be a hoax.

According to the Portageville Police Department, at approximately 4:15 p.m. Thursday, officers received a call of a possible stolen vehicle with a child inside.

During the course of the investigation, the incident was found to be false and the call was from a fake number. Investigators are attempting to locate the origin of the call.

“This is a criminal act and will be investigated as such,” the Portageville Police Department said in a statement.
