Two athletes, one team to be inducted into R-6 Hall of Fame

SIKESTON — Two athletes and one team will be inducted into the Sikeston R-6 Hall of Fame at Friday’s football game between the Sikeston Bulldogs and the Jackson Indians.

Individual inductees include former Sikeston High School Bulldogs Tyeshia Mitchell (girls basketball) and Josh Stinnett (wrestling), both 2017 graduates. The team being inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame is the 2017 varsity cheerleading team. There are no 2022 Honor Wall inductees.

A tailgate for this year’s honorees will take place at the Pavilion next to Public School Stadium, and all former inductees are also invited to attend this event.

To be considered for the Hall of Fame, the athletes and team received All-State and/or post-secondary honors for their athletic achievements in their respective sports.

Team captain of her basketball team, Mitchell received First-Team All-Conference honors her sophomore, junior and senior years and First-Team All-District honors her sophomore, junior and senior years. Scoring 1,060 points in her career, Mitchell was named to multiple All-Tournament teams. After her senior season, Mitchell was awarded the Bob Gray Award for the SEMO Conference, the first Sikeston girls’ basketball player to achieve this honor. She was also selected to the Missouri Basketball Coaches’ Association All-State team.

Stinnett compiled a long list of honors while competing on the wrestling mat. He holds three Bulldog season records: first place with 29 “Falls” his senior year, first place with 50 “Wins” his junior year, and first place with 53 “Wins” his senior year. He holds four career records: fifth place with 236 “Takedowns,” fourth place with 105 “Career Escapes,” first place with 85 “Falls,” and first place with 175 “Wins.”

In his senior year, Stinnett placed first at several tournaments, including the SEMO Conference Tournament, and second at districts. Stinnett was named the SEMO Conference Most Valuable Wrestler and was the Class 3 fourth-place All-State winner.

The 2017 Bulldog Cheerleading Team competed in the 3A Large Class, earning a second-place state honor, losing only to St. Francis Borgia High School.
