Drive-in Movie Night planned for Saturday

SIKESTON — If at first you don’t succeed, try again.

In May, Sikeston’s Community Drive-In Movie Night was postponed due to the chance of severe weather. But rather than waiting until next year, the drive-in move was rescheduled and will now be held Saturday night.

This year’s movie, “The Greatest Showman,” celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams and Zac Efron.

Gates at the Sikeston Jaycee Rodeo Grounds will open at 5 p.m. and the movie will start at dusk. Tickets are $10 per vehicle. It will also be Teachers Appreciation Night as teachers can show their work ID and get in free.

“It’s our way of honoring their hard work and dedication to the students and community,” said Kathy Medley, director of the Sikeston Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Medley said the Drive-In Movie Night is a unique community event and there is much more to do than just the movie.

There will be A Lotta Fun 4u facepainting in attendance as well as several drawings and giveaways from the movie night sponsors.

Orgill will have some giveaways and they are also raffling several items including an Oklahoma Smoker (retail value $511), a Weber Genesis Grill (retail value $1,582), and a Karcher Pressure Washer (retail value $1096).

“The raffle tickets are just $1 each or seven for $5, so it’s a great chance to win some big prizes,” Medley said.

Carnell’s Collision Repair will have some classic cars on-site and will be drawing for a prize. The Sikeston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will have a drawing for four tickets to the Three Rivers Championship College Rodeo.

There will be several food trucks on site including Buzz Feed Market, Wade’s Smoked Meats, Frank’s Frozen Scoops & More and Paradise Concessions.

“So, there’s lots of great reasons to come out and enjoy movie night under the stars at the Sikeston Jaycee rodeo grounds,” Medley said.

“We thank the sponsors who make this event possible,” Medley said. “We are so fortunate to have great companies and organizations like Orgill, Ultimate Flooring, Farm Credit, Sikeston Jaycees, Carnell’s Collision Repair and Mac Con Co. support this event.”
