Area communities set times for trick or treating Monday

Ghouls and goblins will be out in force on Monday night and some local communities have set certain times when trick or treating is permitted.

While there is no city ordinance in Sikeston allowing trick or treating, Sgt. Tyler Rowe, Sikeston Department of Public Safety public information officer said trick or treating is encouraged from 5:30 p.m. to about 9 p.m.

However, trick-or-treaters in Sikeston are encouraged to avoid houses with no exterior lights on.

Door-to-door trick or treating is only permitted within the Charleston city limits on Oct. 31 between 4:30-7 p.m.

Charleston DPS said that has no bearing on any trunk or treat festivity set by organizations within the city.

Halloween will be observed in East Prairie from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 31 for children up to 12 years of age. The East Prairie Police Department urges those who are out to be safe and aware of their surroundings.

Trick or treating will be held in the City of Portageville from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 31 for children 12 years of age and under.

Trick or treating in Oran will also be from 5-8 p.m. Monday.

City ordinance in New Madrid will take place from dusk until 9 p.m. Sunday.

All law enforcement is encouraging those out on the roads to use caution during these times and to watch for pedestrian traffic.
