Red Ribbon Week at New Madrid Elementary

New Madrid Police Chief Joey Higgerson talks to the third through fifth grade students at New Madrid Elementary School about drugs on Oct. 25. Higgerson explained the dangers involved in taking other peopleÕs medicines and about standing up to those who try to be a bad influence on their behavior. Also he fielded a number of questions from the students ranging from what are drugs made of and the effects of driving while on drugs to the dangers of vaping. HiggersonÕs appearance was part of the schoolÕs observance of Red Ribbon Week and the need to be drug free.

New Madrid County Elementary School recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week.

Brooklyn Keith and Colton Ertz, fifth graders at New Madrid Elementary School, show off their Òcrazy hair.Ó As part of Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 23-29, students were encouraged to dress up on different theme days to ÒCelebrate Life. Live Drug Free.Ó On Oct. 25, students showed they were drug free from head to toe by coming to school with crazy hair or socks.
