NEW MADRID, Mo. - While former New Madrid County Treasurer Steve Riley spent the first few days of the new year closing out the county’s books, newly elected County Treasurer Renee Westmoreland Smith was busy learning her new role.

Riley said it was hard to believe it has been 10 years since he was first elected to the position by voters in the county.

“The time has passed quickly,” he said, adding, “However, I am ready to retire and let Renee begin her tenure of service.”

Riley said while he is retiring he will continue to make New Madrid County his home.

“I wish the County well in all the future endeavors that are in the works and those to come,” Riley said. “Most of all I want to thank the voters of New Madrid County for putting their trust in me and my abilities and allowing me to serve them in the capacity of New Madrid County treasurer.
