The New Madrid County Central High School Eagles celebrated an “Out of this World” Homecoming Jan. 20 with the selection of the 2023 basketball homecoming queen and a resounding defeat of the Dexter Bearcats.
Prior to the NMCC win over Dexter, 52-35, the New Madrid County Central High School student council hosted the homecoming coronation. Selected to reign as this year’s queen was Nell Bougard, the school’s foreign exchange student from Belgium.
Bougard is the daughter of Marie and Laurent Bougard and is staying with Crystal and Joe Nevel while studying in America. The NMCC senior is on the archery and softball teams as well as a member of the drama club and SkillsUSA.
She was escorted by Gui Monthanhiero, who is a foreign exchange student from Brazil and the son of Glaucia and Alexandre Montanheiro. He is also staying with Crystal and Joe Nevel while he attends New Madrid County Central High School.
Bougard was crowned by the 2022 homecoming basketball queen Joycelynne Jackson, the daughter of Elizabeth Smith and Randy Jackson. Jackson was escorted by Kayden Minner, son of Veronica Hamilton and Byron Minner.

Senior homecoming maids were Maddie Horne, the daughter of Alecia and Justin Hart, and Lynleigh Carroll, the daughter of Courtney and Andy Carroll. Horne was escorted by Brayden Newson, the son of Shaneka Newson, and escorting Carroll was Jadis Jones, the son of LaNikki Jackson and Craig Perkins.
Junior homecoming maid was Akara Jackson, the daughter of Elizabeth Smith. She was escorted by A.J. Ruff, the son of Angela Bashley.
Mikera Jackson, the daughter of LaNikki Jackson and Craig Perkins, was the sophomore maid and was escorted by John Garrett Harris, the son of John and Andrea Harris.
Serving as the freshman maid was Rozellyn Brooks, the daughter of Latiece and Phillip Brooks, who was escorted by B.J. Waters, the son of Leslie Lott.
