Fire destroys home in Sikeston

Sikeston Department of Public Safety’s fire division responded to a residential fire at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 in the 800 block of Ruth Street in Sikeston following a report of children running out of the residence, according to Capt. Derick Wheetley, fire division commander for DPS. Upon the crew’s arrival, heavy fire and smoke was coming out of the residence, Wheetley said. Officials were able to identify and locate all occupants of the residence. Crews made interior contact of the home, to fight the blaze. The cause of the fire was electrical due to an outlet in a bedroom, and the home was a total loss, Wheetley said. Assisting Sikeston DPS were South Scott County Ambulance, Morehouse Fire and Scott County Rural Fire and Protection District. Crews were on scene until about 12:30 p.m., and no injuries were reported.
