A woman safely escaped after her home caught fire early Sunday in Sikeston.

At 6:41 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, crews responded to 834 E. Kathleen in reference to a structure fire, according to Capt. Derick Wheetley, commander of Sikeston Department of Public Safety’s Fire Division.

“Crews extinguished a multi-room, content fire. There was one occupant in the residence at the time of the fire, and she was able to safely escape,” Wheetley said.

The home received moderate fire and smoke damage, and the cause of the fire is still under review, Wheetley said. However, no foul play is expected, he said.

In addition to Sikeston DPS, South Scott County Ambulance responded to the scene.
