Citywide water main flush set for March 20-24 in Sikeston

Monday, March 6, 2023

A citywide water main flush to help maintain water quality is planned for later this month in Sikeston.

According to Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities, the flushing process is scheduled to begin March 20. It will begin in the center of town and work outwardly and should take two to five days to complete, BMU said.

“Sikeston residents may experience some discolored water during this time,” BMU said. “The water is still safe for consumption, but it could discolor light-colored clothing while laundering. Please check your individual water supply before laundering or using hot water. You can clear the lines of your home by running your outside faucets until your water runs clear or running cold water through your bathtub faucet.”

BMU said running water through any sink faucet is not advised as it could cause clogging of the built-in screens.

“We appreciate our customers and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” BMU said.
