SIKESTON — An eight-session program geared to reduce individuals’ fears about falling and increase activity levels will be offered in Sikeston

University of Missouri Extension will offer “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls” from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays beginning March 29 through May 17 at the Lincoln University Extension located at 214 Lincoln St. in Sikeston.

“Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities,” said Maude Harris with the Scott County Extension Office. “‘A Matter of Balance’ is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.”

Participants will learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors and exercise to increase strength and balance, Harris said.

Anyone who is concerned about falls; interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength; who has fallen in the past; or has restricted activities because of falling concerns should attend the program, Harris said.

The program is free to participants. For registration, contact Harris at (573) 545-3516 or register online at https://extension.missouri.edu/events/matter-of-balance-scott-county-1676997584.
