Mississippi County: Goodin elected to Charleston City Council

CHARLESTON, Mo. — Charleston citizens selected a new city council member, and school board races in the East Prairie and Kelly districts were decided during Tuesday’s municipal election in Mississippi County.

The total number of ballots cast in Mississippi County was 1,501, or 13%, according to Mississippi County Clerk Emily K. Pullen. The following results, which were provided by Pullen’s office, are unofficial.

Voters in the City of Charleston chose Monica Goodin to serve the two-year term on the city council. Goodwin, who received 153 votes, defeated Jason Oliver, 84 votes; Talisha Mays, 76 votes; and Joseph Mooney, 6 votes.

In Charleston, Richard “Rick” Toon was unopposed in his bid for another term as mayor, receiving 228 votes.

Voters in the East Prairie R-2 School District chose Tim Wagner, Brandon Heath and John

Arington to serve the three, three-year terms on the school board. Wagner grabbed 356 votes, while Heath finished with 346 votes, and Arington had 277 votes. Also receiving votes were: Jacob Tripp, 266 votes; Dwight C. White, 240 votes; Charles Thurman, 107 votes; Terry McLain, 25 votes; and John Davis Jr., 7 votes.

A portion of Mississippi County voters reside in the Scott County R-4 “Kelly” School District, and a total of 4 votes were cast for the school board races. Robby Lemonds received 2 votes, while John-Erik Jenkins and Todd Hall each received 1 vote.

In East Prairie, incumbent Kevin Mainord was unopposed for mayor, getting a total of 195 votes. Incumbent Mary Ann Mainord was also unopposed for East Prairie collector and received 195 votes.

In Ward 1, incumbent alderman Jordan Reno was unopposed and had 59 votes; incumbent Jennifer Grissom ran unopposed and had 60 votes; and incumbent Mike Russell gathered 79 votes while also running unopposed for alderman in Ward 3.

In Wilson City, two candidates ran unopposed for trustee, with Joe Earl Lane receiving 22 votes and Sharonda Lane receiving 20 votes.

In Anniston, there were no candidates for mayor or for alderman in Ward 1. Running unopposed was Ward 2 alderman was LaDonna Reno, who netted 5 votes.

In Bertrand, there were no candidates for alderman Ward 2. Running unopposed were Stephen McConkey, mayor, 37 votes; and Gary Meeks, alderman Ward 1, who received 14 votes.
