Lynell DeWitt

SIKESTON — Lynell DeWitt, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023. He passed peacefully with his family by his side.

Lynell was born on Dec. 22, 1939, in Sikeston, to the late Wallace Lincoln “Link” and Geneva Newton DeWitt.

He married Ora Jane “Janie” Woodward DeWitt on Aug. 18, 1961, in Sikeston; she preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2007.

Together they had three children who survive, Sandy and the late Mike Hall of Sikeston, Todd and Debbie DeWitt of Shalimar, Florida and Becky and Corey McKay of New Madrid, Missouri.

He is survived by six grandchildren, Ashley Palmer, Katlyn Bader, Sydney Craft, Jessica DeWitt, Sarah DeWitt-Morgan and Colton McKay; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lynell was the oldest of eight children. He is survived by his siblings, Lonnie DeWitt, Larry DeWitt, Janie Sue Clayton, Gary DeWitt, Phil DeWitt and Steve DeWitt.

Lynell was a 1958 graduate of Matthews High School; he served in the United States Army National Guard after graduating high school. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid. He was an avid gun collector, too.

In addition to his parents, his wife Janie, of 46 years and his son-in-law, Mike Hall, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff DeWitt, and granddaughter, Lindsey Jane McKay.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston with Rev. Colby Elbert officiating.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be Lonnie DeWitt, Larry DeWitt, Gary DeWitt, Phil DeWitt, Steve DeWitt and Coley DeWitt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Bell and Kevin DeWitt.
