12 will take part in Miss Cotton Carnival Contest

SIKESTON — Twelve area high school students will vie for the Miss Cotton Carnival crown at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 during the 79th Annual America Legion Cotton Carnival at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo grounds.

Miss Cotton Carnival is open to 10th and 11th grade Sikeston High School students and ninth through 12th grade students from area high schools.

Averee Ackman, 16-year-old daughter of Amanda and Jonathan Guite, is a junior at Dexter High School. She is active in varsity football cheerleading, basketball, FCCLA, Beta Club and FCA. Anatomy and physiology are her favorite subjects. Her goal after high school is to be an aesthetic nurse and own a skin care clinic.

The 16-year-old daughter of Paul and Lori Adell, Kadison Adell is a sophomore at Sikeston High School. She is active in the Key Club, FCA, Red Peppers, Skills USA and FBLA. In her spare time, she enjoys golfing, reading, riding in her convertible and hanging out with friends. Her favorite subjects are human body science and Spanish 2. After high school, she plans to earn degrees to become an ophthalmologist.

Rylee Corlew, 18, is a senior at Dexter High School. The daughter of Ryan and Jessica Lee, she is active in honors choir, show choir, varsity football cheerleading, varsity dance team, Beta Club and FCCLA. Her favorite subject is math and she plans to attend a local college to pursue a career in photography and design.

Anna Curtis, 15-year-old daughter of Christian Curtis and Sherry Chessor, is a sophomore at Sikeston High School. She is active in cheerleading, soccer, FCA, Key Club, FBLA (treasurer), Bulldog Barker, Red Peppers, Student Council, Astra and her church. In her spare time she enjoys reading and spending time with her grandparents. Her favorite subjects are English, math and science, and she wants to complete medical school and specialize in dermatology.

A senior at East Prairie High School, Brynlea Ditto is the 18-year-old daughter of Nicole Kirby. She is active in Beta Club, Student Council, varsity cheerleader (captain) and FFA. The All-American and All-State cheerleader enjoys fishing and hanging out with family and friends. Ag science is her favorite subject in school. After graduation, she plans to attend dental assistant school and further her education to become a dental hygienist.

Emma Harper, 16, is a sophomore at East Prairie High School. She is the daughter of Lance and Chassey Harper. She is active in the varsity cheer squad and Student Council. The All-State and All-American cheerleader enjoys competing in pageants, crafting, tumbling and hanging out with friends. Math is her favorite subject in school. After high school, she plans to earn a degree in sonography.

Landry Johnson is the 17-year-old daughter of Mike and Ashley Adams sand Justin Johnson. She is a senior at Republic High School, where she is active in varsity cheerleading, FBLA, DECA, FCA, FTA, RepMo Ambush Pep Club and marketing. Her hobbies include pageants, camping and going to the lake. Forensic science is her favorite subject, and she plans to pursue a degree in forensic science and criminology.

Laura Martinez, 16, is a junior at Sikeston High School. The daughter of Lelicia and Antonio Barron, she is active in band, Red Peppers, Grow Your Own Teachers, FTA, Link Crew, College Ambassador, Key Club, Interact Club, NHS, Astra, Inspired social media group, DECA and her church. Her favorite subject is government. After graduating high school, she plans to major in atmospheric science at a four-year university and become a meteorologist.

Izzy Mitchell is the 16-year-old daughter of Tim and Rhonda Mitchell. She isa sophomore at Sikeston High School. She is active in cheerleading, soccer, Red Peppers, FBLA, DECA, Interact, A-teamers, Bulldog Barker and Student Council. Her favorite subject is English, and she plans to attend a four-year university, majoring in journalism.

The 15-year-old daughter of Glenn and Tonya Pobst, Khielynn Pobst is a sophomore at Sikeston High School. She is active in Red Peppers, FCA, FFA and volleyball. Her hobbies include staying healthy by working out and playing club volleyball for NSSC. She also enjoys to travel and is active in her church. After graduation, she plans to attend college to pursue a degree in interior design.

Katie Staples, 15, is the daughter of Erin Staples. The sophomore at Sikeston High Schol is active in the NHS, SHS girls tennis, Red Peppers, FFA, FCA and DECA. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, kayaking, hunting and her church youth group. Chemistry is her favorite subject. After high school, she plans to attend college an major in agribusiness and minor in photography.

Brooklyn Wallace is the 17-year-old daughter of Dinelle Kersey and Deniece Cole. She is junior at Sikeston High school and active in Red Peppers, marching band and the A+ program, her church youth group and lifeguarding. Biomedical science is her favorite subject. She plans to attend college and obtain a degree to become a radiologist.
