MATTHEWS, Mo. — Gerald L. “Gary” Weed, age 78, passed away at his home in Matthews on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023.

He was born Jan. 23, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Ben Weed and Olive Epperly Weed. He was of Christian faith. Gary was very devoted to his wife and family. He enjoyed working for the Standard Democrat for over 25 years and as an automotive technician for 23 years at Walmart in both Sikeston, Missouri, and Dexter, Missouri, until ill health forced his retirement. Gary spent his spare time camping and playing cards, and he loved spending time with his family.

On Aug. 31. 2012, in Sikeston, he married Paula Siars Stevener, who survives of the home.

Gary is also survived by several daughters, Sally McDonnold and Sharon McGraw of Sikeston, Shirley Weed of Marble Hill, Missouri; sons, Gary L. Weed Jr. of Indiana, John Hornberger, address unknown, Robert Weed (Jodi) of Caledonia, Missouri, and Michael McDonnold (Kiya) of Sikeston; 13 granddaughters, including Micah Shiann and grandson-in-law, Tim Hise; 11 grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Peggy Thomas and Robin Boan; and one grandson, Ricky McDonnold.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, Missouri.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 in the Shelby Chapel with Chaplain Jamie Jones officiating.

Interment will follow in Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of Shelby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Thomas McDonnold, Tony McDonnold, Cody McDonnold, Tim Hise, Keshawn Sanders and Michael McDonnold.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Gaskins, Seth Gaskins, Rick Phillips, Davis Dingle and Christopher Frazier.
