SIKESTON — Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” Yates, age 67, passed away on Nov. 22, 2023, at his home in Sikeston.

He was born on March 19, 1956, in Paragould, Arkansas, to the late Orville and Ramona Maag Yates.

On July 13, 1987, in Sikeston, he married Melinda Jane Clark, his loving wife with whom he spent the last 36 years, who survives of the home in Sikeston.

He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Sikeston. Kenny worked for Long John Silver’s for 40 years and served as custodian and bus driver for the New Madrid County school system until his retirement. Kenny was a past President of the Sikeston Kiwanis Club, Sikeston city and church league softball, bowling leagues and roller hockey player. Though he loved those, his true passion was St. Louis Blues hockey team of which he was their biggest fan.

He is survived by his wife Jane; one daughter, Ashley (Bryant) Brewer of Sikeston; one son, Jared Yates of Sikeston; one brother, David Yates of Sikeston; one sister, Jan (Ron) Mason of Sikeston; his granddaughter, Annabelle Brewer of Sikeston; and two very special best friends, Gary Powell and Eugene Cox.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid with Brother Tom Ayers of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Padilla, Joey Higgerson, Thomas Higgerson, Elias Borton, Jacob Pipkin, Hunter Borton, Steven Padilla and Noah Mason.
