New Madrid police seek public’s help to locate shooting suspect

NEW MADRID, Mo. — New Madrid police are asking for the public’s assistance to solve a shooting.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, a call was received about a man being treated for a gunshot wound at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. The man said he was shot by an unknown assailant while walking on Main Street, but he refused to give any further details.

Officers responded the area but no evidence of a shooting was located. A short time later, officers responded to the victim's girlfriend's apartment and found one spent shell casing and a small amount of blood.

The shooting was captured by surveillance cameras in the area, revealing it actually took place in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Vandenvender Avenue, contradicting the statement provided by the victim.

Video evidence shows two men get out of an Infiniti Q60 and approach the victim. The victim and the men become involved in some type of dispute then as the two men flee toward their car, one of them fires a shot striking the victim in the shoulder.

At this time, all parties involved are refusing to cooperate with the investigation, according to a news release from the Police Department. Anyone who recognizes the vehicle from the surveillance footage, is asked to contact the New Madrid Police Department at (573)748-5901.
