SIKESTON — Participants in the weekly prekindergarten story hour celebrated the new year a few days early Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at the Sikeston Public Library. Children’s librarian Lisa Munger kicked off the New Year’s-themed hour by reading children’s books, “The Night Before New Year’s” by Natasha Wing and “Happy New Year, Spot!” by Eric Hill. Children and their parents then made a craft and had a snack before a countdown and celebration, complete with confetti. The weekly story hour for ages 2 to 5 is at 10 a.m. every Wednesday in the Draugher Room at the library. Family nights for preschool-aged children are at 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of the month from October through April, and kindergarten through third grade family nights are at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month. However, due to January holidays, the preK family night is Jan. 8 and the K-3 family night is Jan. 22.
