Katie Nichols
SIKESTON — Katie Annette Nichols, age 72, of Sikeston, was welcomed home by the Lord, Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.
She was born Nov. 21, 1951, at Phoenix, Arizona, to the late L.W. and Katie Barger Hawkins. She was a 1969 graduate of East Prairie High School and then continued her education in many different areas in North Carolina, Virginia; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Paducah, Kentucky.
In 1986, she moved to Sikeston where she was employed at the Sikeston Power Plant. In November of 2008, she moved to Springfield, Missouri, and was employed as a power system scheduler for Southwestern Power Administration with the U.S. Department of Energy. In March of 2011, she retired from the Department of Energy and moved back to Sikeston to be close to her family.
She loved her family with all her heart. Her greatest joy was spending time with them. She was always the number one cheerleader for her sons in all sports events. After retirement, she was again the number one cheerleader for her grandchildren, whether it be football, softball, basketball or dance recitals. They excelled in all they participated in. She was a very proud mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her sons, Cary (Amy) Nichols and Chris Nichols; her special nephew, Doug Watson; her grandchildren, Cody Nichols, Hallie Nichols, Addison Nichols and Hayden Nichols; her sisters and brothers, Carlotta (Joe) Watson; Charles Hawkins, Mike (Cathy) Hawkins, Claudetta Keen and Rebecca Bramlett; also, several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Cynthia Thornton; and her sister-in-law, Sheila Hawkins.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until funeral hour at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Cremation will follow.
