One in custody following deadly shooting in New Madrid County

HOWARDVILLE, Mo. — A woman is dead and a suspect is in custody for a shooting Monday evening.

At approximately 5:43 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a woman with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, deputies found a 45-year-old female lying inside her apartment; the woman was deceased.

Following further investigation, deputies located a suspect and a weapon in a near by apartment, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Department.

Arrested was Shaundale T. Maxwell, 45, who is charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action. He is currently being held in the Mississippi County Jail without bond.

The name of the victim was not released.
