MATTHEWS, Mo. — Jalonda Kay (Bird) Harris was born on July 31, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Born to Dorothy Young and W.H. Gilmer Jr. and raised by Robert and Dorothy Young-Bird, she was a caring wife, mom, memaw and nona. After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully in her home with her husband by her side on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the age of 68.

On April 11, 1975, she was united in marriage to Billy Wayne Harris who survives her of the home.

Other survivors include: sons, Justin (Katy) Harris of Matthews, Clay (Kara) Harris of Greenville, Illinois; grandsons, Garrett (Ashley) Benjamin of Belleville, Illinois, Ryan (Rylee) Harris of Bethalto, Illinois, and Noel Lyons of Greenville, Illinois; great-grandson, Grayson Benjamin of Belleville; siblings, Regina Pursley, Barton Bird, Brad Gilmer and Beth Gilmer, as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert; and one sister, Barbara.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at Nunnelee Funeral Home in Sikeston, Missouri, with Matthews Church of Christ minister, Larry Harwood, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Matthews City Cemetery in Matthews.

Pallbearers are Garrett Benjamin, Ryan Harris, Noel Lyons, John David Harris, Scott Harris and Stan Harris.
