Mission Missouri to create dedicated recovery campus

Friday, May 24, 2024

SIKESTON — During the Monday, May 20 Land Clearance Redevelopment Authority meeting, Mission Missouri purchased two lots to establish a dedicated recovery campus.

Mission Missouri, a drug and alcohol treatment and recovery center that has inpatient housing (16 beds) for women and has outpatient services for both men and women, purchased the lot at 509 W. Gladys to build recovery houses and purchased the lot at 518 Ruth for a parking lot.

The purchases are part of a three-phase plan to establish a dedicated recovery campus to address the critical need for recovery support services, including recovery housing for individuals recovering from addiction within the community.

Phase 1

The first phase includes the remodel of the existing Mission Missouri building that includes a 16-bed women’s recovery housing program, outpatient treatment, administrative offices and the regional office. The remodel will provide an expanded outpatient treatment wing to include individual counseling, group counseling, intensive outpatient services and family therapy services. There will also be a family room and supplies office for emergency overnight stays for mothers and children who are transitioning to other agencies who provide domestic violence shelter and programming.

The remodel of the office wing will house the Workforce Development programming which will be moved to phase two community building once completed; at that time the office wing will house expanded residential staff, a grant writer and expanded financial and billing services.

Remodeling will also upgrade the existing kitchen, meeting rooms and dining room, and there will be an acquisition of two lots of adjacent properties to utilize for parking.

Phase 2

Construction of a new community building on existing property that will include an auditorium to seat 120-150, breakout rooms, administrative and regional office space, peer coaching center, transitional housing (eight apartments), wellness center, culinary kitchen, workforce development and the incorporation of an existing serenity garden to be expanded as a “healing forest” with meditation space. This phase includes the development of an expanded parking on adjacent property (518 Ruth) and construction or purchase of a maintenance shed

Phase 3

Phase three includes acquisition of adjacent properties (eight surrounding lots, four existing houses – one fire-damaged property, three homes that are currently rented); apartments/transitional housing – remodel of one of the existing houses; and family recovery house – remodel of one of the existing houses.

The project will not only meet the needs of the individuals and families seeking recovery, but will also: coordinate needed services under one umbrella; help to collaborate more effectively with partnering organizations who will provide needed services simultaneously or as next steps; develop services on site that cannot be provided elsewhere; improve the workforce.

Acting as the hub, Mission Missouri will better serve the current and emerging providers with training and support; lay the foundation for a national standard of excellence and replicable model for faith-based recovery and wellness; strengthen the first responders’ impact by working closely with DPS and mental health providers; serve as a next step for the homeless shelter provider, DAEOC, in Sikeston for those who need SUD services.
