SIKESTON — James Smith (Eddie Bo), age 83, passed away June 21, 2024, at Saint Francis Medical Center, surrounded by family, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

He was born July 19, 1940, in New Madrid County, Missouri, son of the late Chester O’dell Smith and Lucille Farrenburg Smith.

He attended college at Arkansas State University before leaving to help maintain the family farm in LaForge/Farrenburg, Missouri. He had been in sales and advertising at R.L. Polk, had owned Smith Realty and had been a truck driver before retiring.

Eddie Bo was the best Dad and Papa, a wonderful provider, and he loved to pick at people to get a laugh. He was always a country boy at heart, he loved going on rides in the country and having a swig of whiskey.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sarah Jane Smith (David Allen Wyatt) of Sikeston; two sisters, Frieda Gilmer (Bruce) of LaForge and Kathy Klaus of Perryville, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Norma Smith of Sikeston; four grandchildren, Abbi Lindsey (Justin), Jenni Wrather, James Walker Hall and Katherine Unger all of Sikeston; and two great-grandsons, Brooks and Frazier Lindsey.

In addition to his parents, Eddie Bo was preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Michelle Wrather; three brothers, Billy Smith, Ray Smith, and Jimmy Smith; and one sister-in-law, Joan Smith.

The family would like to thank the Davita Dialysis Center for taking such wonderful care of Eddie Bo, and especially thank JoAnn, Shaundra, and Cierra. The family also wants to thank Scott County Transit for their kindness and trips to and from across town on his trips. The family also wants to thank Barbara Landers for being a great caretaker and friend.
