SIKESTON — The City of Sikeston has announced the hiring of its new parks and recreation director.

“We are excited to announce that Joshua Meyer will be joining the City of Sikeston as our new Parks and Recreation director,” the City of Sikeston announced Wednesday, July 3. “Josh will start on Wednesday, July 10.”

Meyer, who is a native of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, graduated from Cape Central High School and continued his education at Harding University where he was a member of their baseball team. He then completed his degree from Southeast Missouri State. Meyer spent six years coaching baseball at various stops. Most recently, he served as the pitching coach for the Cape Catfish. Meyer has spent the past two years in the parks and recreation field as an assistant recreation division manager for Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation.

“I am incredibly grateful for the experiences I have been blessed with in the past and look forward to the opportunity to enhance the recreational lives of the citizens of Sikestom,” Meyer said. “I hope to form lasting relationships with the community and build upon the great foundational framework that those before me have established.”

In his personal life, Meyer said he values his family and friendships. His hobbies include following sports, reading, listening to podcasts and hiking with his dog, Maddux.
