NEW MADRID, Mo. — The Hart-Stepp House, 711 Waters St., is New Madrid’s oldest home. Today it houses New Madrid’s newest business, Lindsey Jane’s Interiors, LLC.

Owned by Becky and Corey McKay, Lindsey Jane’s Interiors opened July 4. Becky McKay describes it as her dream come true.

“My biggest loves are shopping and home décor,” said McKay. “It was always my dream to open a store.”

Currently Lindsey Jane’s is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. McKay explained she is making her move into business slowly with the goal of building it up to a full-time operation.

The new business has been well-received, according to McKay.

Two rooms are filled with a variety of small accent pieces, rugs, pillows, throw blankets and wall décor. There are also soaps, candles, kitchen gadgets, lotions, perfumes and gift items.

McKay said she tries to bring her customers items they won’t find elsewhere.

“The brand that first sparked my interest that I didn’t really see a lot in this area is Laura Park Designs,” she said. “That was one of my first loves. Then I love the chinoiserie items, the blue and white porcelain candleholders, platters and jars.”

The Glass House candles are popular, especially the Hamptons and Rendezvous scents. Other popular brands include Creative Cove, Tag, Raz, Aromatique and Paddy Wax candles.

Among the unique offerings in the little shop are Inis Home and Body products from Ireland and Fable jewelry from London, England.

“Another line of jewelry I carry is called Hidden Truth jewelry. It has Bible verses and references to Jesus on the back of each piece,” said McKay. “I want to stress that the Lord is the biggest part of everything I do. He is a big part of the business.”

In addition to an array of unique home décor and gift items, McKay has taken the large sunny front room and turned it into a tea room.

Here customers can enjoy Aunt Sandy’s unsweet or sweet tea or Lindsey’s lemonade along with a choice of two items freshly baked from Loaf and Crumb Baking Company. McKay noted in addition to eating in, items may also be purchased to go.

“We hope in the future, when the business is full time to have a daily lunch special with a salad, sandwich and main entree type menu,” she said.

With the approach of autumn, McKay is busy adding fall décor, fragrances and florals to her store. She admits she is looking forward to Christmas and all she will be able to offer.

“It will be Christmas overload,” she said with a wide smile. “I am going to have lots and lots of new Christmas items and a ton of holiday décor.”

Although the business is officially open only two days each week, McKay said she strives to be a full-service operation. When the business is not open and a customer needs an item for a birthday or bereavement gift, she said they can contact her by email at ljsinteriors@yahoo.com, call her at 573-620-2406 or message her on her Facebook page Lindsey Jane’s Interiors LLC.

“I have been very happy with how that is turning out. Also if you need a candle or small print we gift wrap beautifully and deliver locally,” McKay added.

She has added a bridal registry to make gift giving even easier for her customers as well.

“I truly love what I do,” said McKay.”I enjoy bringing beautiful things to people to make their homes a special place.”
