Morehouse man, woman now charged with second-degree murder of a child

NEW MADRID, Mo. — A Morehouse, Missouri, man and woman are now charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Aug. 25 death of a child.

According to online court records, New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lawson filed an amended complaint Tuesday, Sept. 24 against Zackery Scott Murphy and Jazzmine Shea Oehlert alleging a child was killed by methamphetamine intoxication as a result of their possession of the controlled substance on or about Aug. 25.

Also Murphy is charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Murphy, whose bond is set at $50,000, has a preliminary hearing set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.

In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Oehlert is charged with endangering the welfare of a child by knowingly acting in a manner that created a substantial risk to the life, body and health of the child resulting in death, manufacture of a controlled substance, three additional charges of endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled substance.
