NEW MADRID, Mo. — Carol St. Mary, 91, passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, at Golden Living Center in New Madrid.

Born Aug. 19, 1933, in Kewanee, Missouri, to the late Charles (Charlie) and Mary (Mae) Woods Schuerenberg.

Carol worked several years for the Missouri State Division of Family Services. She then worked for the Bank of New Madrid and went back to work for the Division of Family Services where she worked until her retirement. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in New Madrid where she loved to sing. She was in the church choir for over 40 years; she had the voice of an angel. She and Mr. Richard (Dick) were very involved with the church. For many years they took great pride and joy working and taking care of the Grotto.

Carol helped get a girls softball league started in New Madrid and she coached also. She was a force of nature. She loved life. She loved flowers; they filled the back yard, mostly all she had planted herself with some help from our Daddy. She had bird feeders galore and would sit outside for hours watching and listening to them — it was magical because it was as if they knew she would be ready for them when they returned in the winter (and they did).

What Carol really loved was her family; she loved being a “Mema” — she was everyone’s No. 1 fan.

On March 1, 1955, she married the love of her life Richard (Dick) St. Mary Jr., and they were together until he passed away June 9, 2018.

Survivors include: daughter, Susan Kim St. Mary Hall; son, Richard L. St. Mary III; daughter, Lori (Roger) Kenedy; two sisters-in-law, Norma Blankinship and Sherry St Mary; and seven grandchildren: Greg S (Rose) Hall Jr., Amanda (Terry Dale) Aters, Mindy (Jordan) French, Justin Kenedy, Zachary E. (Betsy) Krebs, Richard Luke (Sarah) St. Mary IV, Joshua A. St. Mary; 11 great-grandchildren: Elijah S Hall, Meadow McClendon, Kaitlyn Mackling, Analeigh French, Nolan French, Lily Clark, Daisy Kenedy, Cotton Kenedy, Clara Krebs, Ella Krebs, Richard Luke St. Mary V; two great-great-grandchildren: Oakley Raithel and Remington Byford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. (Dick) St. Mary Jr.; seven siblings, Agnes (Larry) Gentry, Cora (Oliver) Beckman, Melba (Earnest) King, Dixie (Cid) Dade, Farrie (Webb) Snow, Ivie (Lee) Dill, Walter (Louise) Schuerenberg; one son-in-law, Greg Hall Sr.; and one great-grandson, Gage M.Aters.
