Leo Duclos

DECATUR, Ala. — Leo Albert Duclos passed away on Oct. 13, 2024 at his residence in Decatur. His wife, Jennifer J. Duclos, and other close family members were at his bedside.

Leo was born on July 12, 1934, to his parents, Arthur C. and Clara A. Duclos, in Manila, Arkansas, (both deceased). Leo’s five brothers, Leon A., John J., Zachary M., Alvin L. and Russell J. Duclos; and two sisters, Rosalie A. Sanderlin and Hannah M. Duclos, preceded him in death. His stepson, Robert A. Zink, also preceded him in death.

Leo is survived by his wife, Jennifer; six children, A. Kevin Duclos, B. Keith Duclos Sr., L. Shawn Duclos, Celeste A. Fairley, Benjamin L. Duclos and Amanda M. Folden. He has eight grandchildren, Brian K. Duclos, Jr., Nathan G. Waddill, Dylan K. Tinsley, Taylor A. McCullough, Nicholas A. Duclos, Zachary K. Duclos, Kenley D. Folden and Mila G. Folden. Leo also has seven great-granddaughters, Olivia A. Waddill, Harper A. McCullough, Keegan G. McCullough, Charlee A. McCullough, Brentley C. Waddill, Emelia R. Tinsley and Isabelle A. Tinsley.

Leo cherished his role as a family man. Leo dedicated 33 years to the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He completed numerous military courses, including the Artillery Basic and Medical Basic Courses. He earned a master's degree from the University of Arkansas and his Ph.D. from Purdue University. He shared his knowledge as a college professor in the Agriculture Department at Arkansas State University. After a fulfilling career, he retired from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Leo loved visiting Brazil, South America and was a distinguished world traveler. He had a passion for learning about different cultures. He enjoyed college football, Johnny Cash and Charlie Pride music, fishing, and watching western movies and television. He enjoyed his association with the German Oberlandler Club, Masons and Shriners.

Leo will be remembered for his love of others and friends, his warm spirit, intellectual curiosity, and unwavering dedication to his country and community. He will be missed by all who knew him.
