David Leon Pounds

NEW MADRID, Mo. — David Leon Pounds was born on April 11, 1948, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to the late Rita Skelton Pounds and Jake Pounds. He passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 76 years, six months and one day.

Mr. David Pounds was a graduate of Bloomfield, Missouri, High School in 1966, then went on and received a bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1970. He was a Retired District Manager of the Social Security Administration for over 30 years, with the last 23 years serving in the Sikeston Social Security office. He was also a veteran of the Army serving in the ARNG.

He had a great passion for the game of golf, was a frequent traveler with a love for adventure, a member of the New Madrid Eagles and the New Madrid Country Club. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was united in marriage on July 21, 2003, to Anna Barnwell in Las Vegas, Nevada, to which he said, many times, was the best thing that has ever happened to him.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Anna Barnwell Pounds of New Madrid; one son, Jason Pounds of Sikeston, Missouri; three daughters, Laura LaPorte of Southaven, Mississippi, Carrie (Matt) Romines of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Elizabeth (Wesley) Hodges of New Madrid; two brothers, Van Pounds of Salem, Oregon, and Phil Pounds of Dexter, Missouri; one sister, Marilyn Hester of Bloomfield; six grandchildren, Logan LaPorte, Kennedy LaPorte, Kendall Pounds, Colten Romines, Lillian Romines, Emily Katerine Hodges; and a host of many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be at a later date with DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville in charge of arrangements.
