Filing period closes for Sikeston City Council; Ward 4 election set
SIKESTON — The filing period for open Sikeston City Council positions closed Tuesday, Oct. 29, and an election will be needed in Ward 4 as three candidates have filed for the open position.
Onethia Williams in Ward 4 is serving her second term on the council and is ineligible to run. Filing for candidacy in Ward 4 was Lorenzo Ware, Tearle “Cowboy” Johnson along with Nicole “Nikki” Lane. Since more than two candidates filed for the Ward 4 seat, there will be a special election on Feb. 4, 2025. The top two receiving votes will then run against each other on General Municipal Election Day, which will be April 8, 2025.
Both the Ward 1 position and the open at-large position saw just one person file. Tom Robison filed for re-election in Ward 1 while Matt Drake filed for the at-large position currently held by John Leible, who chose not to serve a second term. Both Robison and Drake will run unopposed in the April 8 election.
