BENTON, Mo. — Scott County History Society member Sherre Simmons puts finishing touches on one of the two patriotic-themed trees on display at the Scott County Courthouse, 131 S. Winchester, in Benton. To honor all veterans, living and deceased, the Society, since 2018, has decorated a veterans’ tree in the entry way of the Scott County Courthouse. Contributors made ornaments of their veterans describing their year of service and branch of the Military. All Scott Countians are welcome to place a veteran’s photo on the tree. The photo (copy only) should be placed on card stock or something sturdy with a hanger. Each shows name, rank, and time in service. Courthouse front doors close weekdays at 4:30 p.m. The trees will remain on display throughout the Christmas season and into January.
