SIKESTON — John Louis Chaney, age 77, passed away Nov. 18, 2024, surrounded by family in Sikeston.

He was born Dec. 29, 1946, in Canalou, Missouri, son of the late Jewel Chaney and Louise Kem-Chaney.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and had been a truck driver for all his life for Malone & Hyde, Atlas, Edwards Transportation and many others before retiring. His CB Handle was "Pullpin.”

John was a member of First Baptist Church of Canalou; a member of the Sikeston Masonic Lodge; Order of the Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Grand Patron in 2008; and a member of Sikeston Elks Lodge 2319 where he volunteered selling the progressive cards at Bingo for several years. He really loved wood working, he made baby cradles for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On Oct. 15, 1965, at Morehouse, Missouri, he married Gloria Ann Drake-Chaney. She preceded him in death April 23, 2021.

Survivors include: two sons, Kevin (Jody Ann) Chaney of Matthews, Missouri, and Jody (Karen) Chaney of Sikeston; one sister, Mary Beth (Tom) Bradley of Sikeston; eight grandchildren, Krysten, Jake, Johnna, Jennie, Tyson, Tanner, Tucker, and Megan; eight great-grandchildren; and special friend, Mable Polk of New Madrid, Missouri.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by one son, David Chaney on March 3, 2007.

There will be a visitation held Saturday, Nov. 23, from 3 p.m. until time of a memorial service at 5 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Ritter will officiate.
