SIKESTON — Sikeston High School junior Maritza “Mia” Flores will march in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band on Thanksgiving Day.

“We are beyond proud and excited,” Sikeston Public Schools said in a social media post. “Be looking for her in the flute section.”

SHS Band Director Kim Whitehead is with Mia and working as part of the band staff. The Macy’s Band will be part of the opening show for the parade and will be the first marching band to step off for the parade which means they rehearsed in Herald Square at 3:40 a.m., ate breakfast at 4 a.m., prerecorded the opening show at 6:30 a.m. and then received a police escort to the beginning of the parade route Thursday, Nov. 28.

The best channel to view the Herald Square performance will be NBC. Look for the red and white uniforms.
