Federal grand jury indicts Matthews man on drug, gun charges
NEW MADRID, Mo. — A federal grand jury has indicted a New Madrid County resident on drug charges.
On Dec. 3, a federal grand jury found probable cause to indict David L Wilburn of Matthews, Missouri, on possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, both violations of U.S. federal codes. Wilburn has turned himself into the federal authorities.
According to a news release from New Madrid County Sheriff Ronnie Adams, the charges stem from a multi-agency investigation where Wilburn was arrested at his residence on Sept. 4 during an investigation into a stolen dirt bike. Reportedly the dirt bike was being sold at a residence on County Road 803 in New Madrid County.
An investigative team from the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office, New Madrid Police Department, Matthews Police Department and the SEMO Drug Task Force was assembled to investigate.
Officers located multiple suspects outside the residence and observed dirt bike, which was confirmed as stolen from Cape Girardeau County. In addition, officers also observed a handgun with what appeared to be a homemade suppressor and a 3-D printed gun frame.
Officers developed probable cause and applied for a search warrant on two residences. After the search warrant was granted, officers located approximately 61 grams of methamphetamine, multiple firearms, drug paraphernalia with packaging supplies and a 3-D printer that was used for manufacturing illegal firearms.
Wilburn and another suspect were arrested at the time.
