SIKESTON -- Wednesday's snowfall and other recent winter storms haven't only closed local schools and delayed travel, they've also canceled area blood drives, creating a shortfall in blood donations. The latest of these cancellations came as a result of Wednesday's snow. A drive was scheduled from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sikeston Factory Outlet Stores...

SIKESTON -- When school resumed for the Sikeston R-6 School District in 2011, students attending the local YMCA's after school program also started a new routine. For the first time in the program's 14-year existence, students stayed put in their home schools when the bell rang at the end of the day...

SIKESTON -- Two robberies occurring within 24 hours of one another are under investigation by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Police responded to Rhodes 101 Convenience Store, 535 N. Main St., around 3:21 a.m. Wednesday, after a clerk contacted police explaining she had just been robbed. When officers arrived they learned the suspect had fled westbound on foot...

SIKESTON - Wednesday's storm brought another wintry blast to Southeast Missouri, creating havoc on the highways. The Sikeston Power Plant, which serves as an official recording station for the National Weather Service, reported 3 inches of snow over the 24-hour period ending at 7 a.m. today...

FARMINGTON -- The road to state starts this weekend for the Sikeston wrestling team when the Bulldogs head to Farmington to take part in the Class 3, District 1 Tournament. Starting Friday night and wrapping up Saturday, the Bulldogs will compete with the best grapplers from 15 other schools with the top four wrestlers in each weight class moving on to the state tournament...

SIKESTON -- Many athletes in the Standard Democrat coverage area have been performing well at the college level. Here is a list of those who went on to further their basketball careers. Six local athletes are contributing to the success of both the boys and girls programs of Three Rivers Community College...

For the third time this season, the boys basketball game between Sikeston and DeSoto was cancelled due to bad weather. No make up date has been set. Sikeston will be back in action on Friday when they host Cape Central.
