New Madrid Elementary students set school record in fundraising efforts

NEW MADRID, Mo. - Students at New Madrid Elementary set a school record in their fundraising efforts on behalf of the American Heart Association.

Throughout February, students learned about heart health and sought donations for the American Heart Association. On March 4, school officials tallied their fundraising efforts and announced the youngsters raised $11,333.45 for AHA.

Leading the fundraising efforts was Ramsey Hogan who collected $1,696.26 in donations. Others in the top 10 were Anna Claire Sides, Brady Heeb, John Luke Taylor, Myami Shaver, Marshall Sides, Alex Helmes, Audry Williams, Harper Mungle and Kellen Kimball.

To celebrate their success the top 10 were invited to spray Silly String on five volunteers at a school assembly. Undergoing the Silly String barrage were New Madrid Elementary principal Toni Taylor-Lawfield; R-1 superintendent Dr. Sam Duncan; B.J . Phillips, a member of the New Madrid Police Department; Pate Hogan in charge of technology at New County Central High School; and Toby Heeb, a school resource officer.

Also the students demonstrated some of the heart healthy exercises they had learned, including jump roping.
