Following a discussion at our Jan. 13 meeting of the upcoming "Payment In Lieu Of Taxes" ballot issue, the Sikeston Park Board voted to support passage of the PILOT proposal on Feb. 4. The Park Board is in agreement with the City Council that the PILOT is a legitimate revenue source for the City that will help us continue to maintain a high level of service for our citizens in the areas of Public Safety and Public Works as well as continue a quality capital improvement program...

I'm not sure what to make of Gov. Bob Holden's threat to reduce education funding in the state by $259 million. I recognize, as Holden explained, that Missouri's budget picture is dismal. And I also recognize that substantial cuts in spending must be made. Without detailed numbers, perhaps education is the most logical place to make these cuts...

PUXICO - Human remains have been found near Puxico. According to Stoddard County Sheriff Steve Fish, a Puxico resident was looking for deer antlers approximately two miles west of Puxico when human skeletal remains were found. I'm writing to look at this PILOT situation that everyone is so confused over. I look at it as a citizen of Sikeston, being on the City Council for five years and also being a businessman myself. Looking at it from all three positions, I think I can comment on this subject...
