KEWANEE -- Timothy "Timmy" Farmer, 51, died Oct. 2, 2012, at his home. Born Sept. 5, 1961, in Lake County, Tenn., he was the son of Bill Farmer of New Madrid and the late Nona Ann Chessor Farmer. Survivors include: three sons and a daughter-in-law, William "Bill" Varnadore and Trish Farmer of Poplar Bluff and Justin Perry Farmer and Timmy Farmer of Lilbourn; two sisters, Millie Stanley and Marty Reno of New Madrid; four grandchildren; and two special friends, Twinkie Farmer and Joanne Farmer...

DEXTER -- David Bruce Dial, 59, formerly of Granite City, Ill., died Oct. 4, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Born May 18, 1953, in Stoddard County, to Anna Ruth Scroggins Dial of Dexter and the late John D. Dial, he had moved from Granite City to Dexter three years ago...

WAPPAPELLO -- Jerry Dee Tankersley, 73, died Oct. 5, 2012, at Puxico Nursing and Rehab. Born Dec. 2, 1938, in Medford, Ore., to the late L.E. and Charity Schreiner Tankersley, he was a member of the Lake Wappapello United Methodist Church. He worked as a quality control engineer for nuclear construction projects and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. I realize that Sikeston's American Legion Cotton Carnival is now history but a couple of items need to be mentioned. For starters, thanks go to the Legion members, Auxiliary and volunteers who staged yet another outstanding event. From the fish sandwiches (always my favorite), to the midway, the parade, the cute kids and lovely young beauty contestants, this annual event is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all of those involved...
